Elon Musk led electric vehicle company Tesla has finalised a deal to open its first showroom in India at Mumbai’s posh Bandra Kurla Complex, according to a Times of India report. The Tesla showroom is said to occupy a space of 4,000 sq ft on ground floor of a commercial tower in BKC. Elon Musk’s company is said to pay among the highest rent lease for a commercial space, coming in at 900/sq ft or around 35 lakh per month.

Tesla’s showrooms in India:

Tesla is said to have finalized a lease agreement in BKC for five years and the company is also reportedly working on opening a second showroom in Delhi’s Aerocity.

Notably, the finalizing of lease agreement comes just two weeks after Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the leader’s US visit. Shortly afterwards, Tesla had also opened listing for 13 jobs in India.

“We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,” PM Modi had said after meeting Musk earlier in the month.

Tesla price in India:

According to a previous report by CNBC-TV18, Tesla is considering importing cars from Berlin and selling them in India at first. The initial plan by Tesla is said to bring an EV under $25,000 in India.

Notably, Tesla car price in the US starts from $35,000 (approx. 30.4 lakh) at the factory level. Tesla Model 3 is the most inexpensive car of the company in the US.

The CNBC-TV 18 report had stated that Musk hasn’t committed to manufacturing in India yet but Tesla is said to source components over a billion dollars from India and this number is said to go up significantly in the coming months.
