Apple updated the AirPods Max last year and introduced the much-needed USB-C port. However, despite this, features like lossless audio and ultra-low latency were missing. But now, Apple has announced that a new software update, arriving in April, will bring lossless audio and an ultra-low latency mode to the AirPods Max.

With this update, users will have an improved experience while listening to music, watching films, and gaming. It will also benefit music creators by enhancing workflows for songwriting, beat-making, production, and more.

New AirPods Max Features

Firstly, it’s important to note that to access lossless audio and ultra-low latency, you must use a USB-C cable. This means the feature will not be available when connected wirelessly.

This update will unlock 24-bit/48kHz lossless audio, allowing users to experience recordings in their original quality, just as the artist intended. In fact, Apple Music offers a vast library of lossless audio, with over 100 million songs available in this format.

Helping With Content Creation

The experience isn’t limited to just listening to lossless music, it extends to music production as well. It also helps creators work with lossless and ultra-low latency audio in professional workflows on apps like Logic Pro and more.

Additionally, creators will now be able to mix personalised Spatial Audio tracks with head tracking, a feature users can experience on iPhones. This will also require a USB-C cable.

Big Boost For Gamers And Live Streamers

Apple also highlights that this feature will also be handy for gamers and live streamers, as ultra-low latency reduces lag time, bringing it on par with the built-in speakers of Apple devices such as MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones. This means a significant improvement in audio performance for a seamless and responsive experience, and helping with overall gaming performance.
